John Mayer reveals if he’ll pursue his acting career after the ‘Vengeance’ cameo

John Mayer could accept more film roles in the future – but only if his friends offer them.

Mayer, who has a cameo role in his friend BJ Novak’s upcoming dark-comedic thriller Vengeance, shared why he joined the project in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the film’s Los Angeles red carpet and revealed if he will pursue an acting career at Premiere.

“I like being in my friends’ movies,” the Gravity crooner told ET. “I don’t really have the brain for acting. I like it when my friends call me and say, ‘Do you want to do stuff?'”

He went on to boast, “I’m my own film agent,” before seemingly hinting that he’d be open to a possible future collaboration with his friends in the film industry.

“It just happens when friends say, ‘Hey, I have an idea for you.’ I say, ‘Yes, I will do it.’ “It’s that simple!” he said of his approach to accepting a project.

Mayer also gushed about the talent and creativity of Novak, who wrote and directed Vengeance.

“BJ thinks very carefully about where he’s going,” he explained while discussing the film’s opening scene, in which he appears.

The singer, who is acting as a “parody” version of a rock star, described the scene as “a great moment between two guys who are smart but stupid”.

“The way we talk, it’s like we’re just listening to ourselves talk,” Mayer joked.

Vengeance also stars Novak, Dove Cameron, Ashton Kutcher, Boyd Holbrook, Issa Rae and Isabella Amara. The film marks the debut of eight-time Grammy winner Finneas O’Connell as a film score composer.

Novak told Billboard that it was Mayer who linked him and O’Connell.

According to the actor, he met O’Connell when he stopped by Mayer’s a few years ago while Mayer was doing his Instagram live show Current Mood with Billie Eilish’s brother as a guest.

After Novak texted his producer Nicholas Kraft to say they had met, Kraft told him to ask O’Connell to score “Vengeance”.

“And I was like, ‘What? I’m not going to ask him to score Vengeance.’ And, I don’t know, maybe a drink later… I asked him, ‘Have you ever thought about scoring a movie? ?’” Novak recalled.

O’Connell told Music Magazine that he had a “fun” time working with Novak, who is making his directorial debut with the film.

“As a true beginner, it was great to have a director who was also doing it for the first time,” said the singer-songwriter. “I felt that there was no prejudice. It was really fun.”

Vengeance hits theaters this Friday.
