John Travolta has paid tribute to actress Kirstie Alley after her death from cancer at the age of 71.

The statement posted on social media through her official accounts said: “We are saddened to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away. passed away after a battle with cancer, which was only recently discovered.”

Sharing a photo of them together on Instagram, Travolta wrote: “Kirstie is one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had.

“I love you Kirstie. I know we’ll see each other again.”

She is best known for her breakout role as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom Cheers from 1987 to 1993, and received both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for the role in 1991.
