A judge has banned ex-Hollywood couple Jonny Depp and Amber Heard from signing autographs outside of court and says she doesn’t want their defamation trial, which starts today in the US, to become a circus.
Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard have been banned from giving fans autographs in hopes of catching a glimpse of the couple outside court as their bitter multi-million dollar US defamation case begins.
The judge delivered the verdict as she warned she didn’t want the Virginia trial to turn into a circus while dozens of supporters, including a member of a Johnny Depp fan group, gathered outside.
The latest trial between the warring stars, which begins today, stems from a complaint filed in 2019 by Depp, who alleges Heard defamed him in an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018.

She said: “I want Johnny to know how much his fans love him. He’s just a normal guy, he’s gentle and sweet. It’s inconceivable that he could behave the way Amber said he would.”
In addition to experts in domestic violence and forensic medicine, there are also some well-known names in the long list of witnesses at the trial.
On Depp’s side is British actor Paul Bettany, who exchanged lyrics with Depp about Heard.
The actress’ list includes her ex-boyfriend Elon Musk and actor James Franco, who Heard said once inquired about bruises on her face following an alleged abusive incident involving Depp.
The trial comes after Depp lost a defamation case in which he sued News Group Newspapers, the publisher of the Sun, for publishing a story in 2018 entitled “Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be ‘really happy'”. , in which she cast goon Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts movie?”

Heard told her Instagram followers before the trial: “I will be going offline for the next few weeks. As you may know, I will be in Virginia facing my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court.”

She continued, “Johnny is suing me over an op-ed I wrote in the Washington Post recounting my experiences with violence and domestic violence.
“I never named it, I wrote about the price women pay when they speak out against men in power. I’m still paying that price, but hopefully once this case is closed I’ll be able to move on, and so will Johnny.
“I’ve always loved Johnny and it pains me to have to relive the details of our past lives together in front of everyone,” Heard said.

In May 2016, Los Angeles Police Department were called to a domestic dispute at Depp’s Los Angeles home but found there was no evidence of a crime.
Heard filed for divorce days later, citing irreconcilable differences and a restraining order accusing Depp of repeated domestic violence. She was granted a restraining order while Depp’s reps vehemently denied all allegations of abuse.
