Johnny Depp once texted a friend that he hoped Amber Heard’s body would rot in the trunk of a car in a text message to a friend, a US court heard on Wednesday.
The message was read as part of the defamation case against Depp and Heard in Fairfax, Virginia.
Witnesses for the day included Depp’s longtime friend Isaac Baruch, who was asked by Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft: “Remember Mr. Depp ever told you he was hoping Amber Heard’s decomposing body was found in the frigging trunk of an A Honda Civic?”
Baruch pointed to a monitor showing the message and said, “Yeah. Well, I’m saying yes – I see it here, so obviously yes was said. It was written.”
Bredehoft then asked him if Depp referred to Heard as “c***” via text.
“Well, it’s written there, so yes, I could see that,” said Baruch, also reading from a monitor in front of him. He disputed Bredehoft’s specific characterization of Depp’s words, adding, “That’s not what he’s saying — he’s like, ‘That c*** ruined such a freakin’ cool life we’ve had for a while.'”
Baruch, an artist who has known Depp for 40 years, said Heard’s “fake narrative” “went out the door and around the world” when he was testifying at the US trial.
The actor, 58, is suing his former partner for defamation over an article she wrote in 2018 The Washington Post in which she spoke about her experiences with domestic violence.
Depp’s lawyers say the article falsely implied that Heard, 35, was physically and sexually abused by him when they were a married couple.
Mr. Baruch lived in the actor’s apartment in the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles between 2013 and 2016.

Testifying yesterday, he said he was “tired” from the lengthy process, adding that Heard should “move on”.
Asked if he was mad at her Aquaman star and her allegations, Mr Baruch said: “Yeah, that got me kind of confused and frustrated and angry, upset.
“It’s been six years… Am I still mad? What I am is tired and I want this all to end.
“So many people have been affected by this vicious lie that started and created it – and it’s hit the door and around the world.
“I’m not angry with anyone. I want what’s best for Heard. I want her to take responsibility, heal and move on.”
Visibly upset, he added: “For Johnny, his family has been completely destroyed by all of these things and it’s not fair. It’s not right what she did and what happened that affected so many people, it’s crazy how it happened.
Heard’s attorneys say that although the publication of her article is protected by the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech, there is also evidence that Depp physically abused her on multiple occasions.
Mr Baruch was asked about his encounters with Heard in the days following an incident on May 21, 2016, in which she claimed Depp “became violent” towards her.
He said the following day, May 22, which happened to be his birthday, he saw Heard again in a well-lit location but saw no signs of injury, although he “inspected” her face.
“I saw her [with] no make-up… make-up, glamorous — I’ve been seeing her in different forms for three and a half years,” he said. “She sticks her head out and I look…
“I examine her face. I look at the whole – and I see nothing. I see no cut, no bruise, no swelling, no redness. It’s just Amber’s face.”
Depp’s attorneys say the abuse allegations were false and that the actress “prepared for the performance of her life” during the trial.
Mr Baruch also said he saw CCTV video footage of the apartment building a few weeks after his encounters with Heard in May.
Footage showed the actress and her sister Whitney apparently giving her a “wrong punch”.
When asked about Heard’s reaction to the punch, he said, “She laughed.”
Heard Washington Post The article was titled “I spoke out against sexual violence – and faced the wrath of our culture.”
The case will be brought in the state of Virginia and not in California, where the two celebrities live, because The Washington PostThe online editions of are published from servers located in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Other high-profile celebrities have been listed as witnesses at the trial and are expected to appear in the courtroom to testify in the coming weeks.
These include actors James Franco and Paul Bettany and Tesla founder Elon Musk.
