Johnny Depp has won his legal battle with his ex Amber Heard, after a six-week trial in the US.

A jury has ruled in favor of the actor, 58, after weeks of testimony from Depp himself, Heard, friends of the couple, expert witnesses and even supermodel Kate Moss, a former partner of Depp’s.

Depp was awarded $10 million (£8m) in punitive damages and $5m (£4m) in punitive damages.

Heard was awarded $2 million in damages after proving one of her counterclaims to a jury.

Depp sued Heard, 36, for defamation in the 2018 Washington Post in which she wrote about the alleged domestic violence she suffered, although she did not name her ex-husband.

He is demanding more than £38m, saying her accusations of domestic abuse ended his career and ruined his reputation.

During the course of the trial, the jury heard how the couple met on the set of The Rum Diary and then began a romantic relationship during a press tour in 2011.

They married in 2015, celebrating with friends and family on Depp’s private island in the Bahamas.

In May, Heard filed for divorce.

During the trial, Heard detailed the alleged physical assaults by Depp, including on a private jet, in front of staff.

She also described the alleged sexual assaults, claiming Depp penetrated her with a bottle during a violent and angry evening in Australia, performing a “cave search” on her while they are on vacation in America, and then in the Bahamas where he is. “inserted” her, through her bathing suit.

The trial also saw Depp kick and smash kitchen cabinets.

For the first time taking a stand during the trial, Depp described the impact the accusations had on him.

“It’s weird that one day you’re Cinderella so to speak, 0.6 seconds later you’re Quasimodo,” he said.

“I don’t deserve it, and neither do my children and those who have believed in me all these years. I don’t want any of those people to believe that I’ve done something wrong or that I’m a scammer.

“I’m proud of honesty. I’m proud of truth. Truth is the only thing I care about.

“Lies get you nowhere, but lies are built on lies built on lies. I’m obsessed with the truth.”

It is said, the last time she stood, that she had received thousands of death threats since the trial began.

In tears, she continued: “I just want Johnny to leave me alone. I just want him to leave me alone. I’ve been saying that for years.”

When asked what she hopes to get in return “after this is over”, Amber said she has “the right to tell my story” and: “I hope to get my voice back. “ Johnny Depp Wins US Legal Battle With Amber Heard After Bitter 6 Weeks Trial
