Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s case continues in Virginia. Edward Scissorhands actor Depp testified in court that he never physically assaulted Heard
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial continues in Virginia.
In recent trial developments, Depp denied allegations of domestic violence by Heard in court.
A former partner of Depp, Vanessa Paradis, called Heard’s claims “false facts” in a statement obtained by TMZ in 2016
Amber claimed she was a victim of domestic violence in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post, though she didn’t name Depp in the article.
On Tuesday, Depp denied ever hitting Amber, saying: “I have never hit Ms. Heard in that way, nor have I hit any woman in my life.”
Pirates of the Caribbean actor Depp sued his ex-wife for £38million for defamation before Heard countered for double the amount.
The Virginia trial is now in its second week and arguments over the former couple’s private lives were broadcast live around the world.
Who is Vanessa Paradis?
Vanessa Paradis is a French actress, model and singer who was previously the partner of Johnny Depp.
They met on the set of Roman Polanski’s neo-noir film The Ninth Gate and were together for around 14 years from 1998 to 2012.
They had two children together, including Lily-Rose Depp.
In 2012, it was reported that the couple had “separated amicably,” and Depp later spoke of how his time spent while at work wasn’t helping things. Paradis married French writer Samuel Benchetrit in 2018.
He told Rolling Stone: “Relationships are very difficult. Especially in the hype I’m in because you’re always gone or they’re gone and that’s why it’s hard.”
Vanessa hinted: “Sometimes you might be in an unhappy relationship; you are very much in love with someone but it makes you unhappy and you think things can change and you can do it.”
It is not known if Vanessa could be subpoenaed to testify at the current trial, but she was not subpoenaed by Depp’s team during the High Court defamation case he lost against the editors of The Sun.
What did Vanessa Paradis say about Johnny Depp?
Vanessa Paradis has previously described former partner and actor Johnny Depp as “generous” and “non-violent.”
She said of Depp that he was “a kind, thoughtful, generous and non-violent person and father”.
“On film sets, actors, directors and entire crews adore him because he is humble and respectful of everyone and is one of the best actors we have ever seen.”
The comments were leaked to the media at the time of Heard’s initial claims that Depp subjected her to domestic violence. Depp was later involved in a High Court defamation with the editors of The Sun, who called Depp a “wife beater”.
Depp lost the case and an attempt to overturn the High Court’s ruling that he assaulted his ex-wife Heard, leaving her in “fear for her life”. The judge ruled that the “vast majority” of Heard’s abuse allegations could be proved civilly. This means that the abuse is more likely to have happened than not.
Paradis had claimed Heard’s allegations were “false facts”, saying: “This is nothing to the real Johnny that I know and from my many years of personal experience I can say that he has never been violent or abusive to me.
“I saw that these outrageous statements were really disturbing and also damaged his career because unfortunately people continued to believe these false facts.
“This is so upsetting as he has helped so many people in his personal and professional life with kindness and generosity.”
