Joni Mitchell says she’s removing music from Spotify

Joni Mitchell committed to remove her music from Spotifyjust days after iconic singer-songwriter Neil Young did the same.

In a note about her Official website titled “I Stand With Neil Young!,” Mitchell wrote, “I have decided to remove all my music from Spotify. Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global medical and scientific community on this issue.”

It’s unclear when Mitchell’s music will be removed from the platform. Representatives for Spotify and Mitchell did not immediately respond Diversityrequest comment.

“Please notify Spotify immediately that I am actively removing all songs available on Spotify as soon as possible,” Young wrote. “I do this because Spotify is spreading vaccine misinformation – potentially fatal to people who believe the misinformation is being spread by them.”

In a statement at the time, Spotify said: “We want all of the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes a great responsibility in balancing both the safety of the listeners and the freedom for the creators. We have a detailed content policy, and we’ve removed more than 20,000 episodes of COVID-related podcasts since the pandemic began. We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.”

Rogan hosts the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Spotify, which is the most listened to podcast on the platform.
