Root accepts England need sweeping changes after Ashes defeat

Jonny Bairstow scored an excellent hundred England ‘s warm-up game against a West Indies President’s XI as her new batting lineup impressed prior to her first post-Ashes test series.

In Bairstow’s first game since England’s lone hundred in the Ashes, the 32-year-old scored 106 points unbeaten and was one of five members of the top six to progress through the fifties.

Openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley both hit 60s on day one of warm-up, and captain Joe Root also managed a safe half-century after moving up the order to third.

Dan Lawrence, who was favored over Ollie Pope in that match, used his opportunity to score 83 points and seemingly nail his spot on the Test 1 team.

And Bairstow, finishing sixth, picked up where he left off in Sydney with a fine century that saw England declare 466-6.

“Jonny obviously seems to be in fantastic form right now and hopefully it can continue for a long time,” Lawrence said of Bairstow’s innings. “Obviously he’s happy and seems to be in a really good place.”

After England declared they were left with a full session to give their bowlers a chance to take early wickets.

However, with veteran superstars James Anderson and Stuart Broad out for the tour, Mark Wood didn’t play at all Ben Stokes Still not fully fit after picking up a side injury in Australia, England’s hem attack struggled to make an impact.

Neither Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes nor Craig Overton were able to take a wicket as they rolled 20 overs together with the new ball.

The West Indian President’s XI went 48-2 by the end of the game, with the two wickets falling thanks to spinner Jack Leach and a run-out.
