Joony made his debut on the Billboard Hot 100 (July 23), thanks to his standout credit on Brent Faiyaz’s “FYTB,” which debuted at number 97.
The song started with 5.7 million streams in the US during the week of July 8-14, according to Luminate. It appeared on Faiyaz .’s second year LP Wastelanddropped on July 8 (on the Lost Kids label) and debuted at #1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #2 on the Billboard 200 with 88,000 equivalent album units.
“It’s a beautiful thing,” Joony said Billboards. “The fact that Black music, hip-hop and R&B became the No. 2 album in the country independently – as an independent artist has been a huge thing for Black music. Surprised.”
“FYTB” earned Silver Spring, Md., 21-year-old rapper (real name Jonathan Negero) his first spots on Billboardschart of. Along with the Hot 100, the song debuted at number 10 on Hot R&B Songs and number 28 on Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs.
The track marks the second collaboration between Joony and Faiyaz, who is also from Maryland. The pair previously collaborated for the song “Paper Soldier” last year.
In addition to his work with Faiyaz, Joony has released many solo projects, including his most recent LP. Beautiful in black in the May.
