The manga Jujutsu Kaisen continues to sell like hot cakes.
As 2022 draws to a close, several sales trackers are releasing the latest information available before the end of the year. Oricon, the Japanese company that tracks manga sales throughout the year, has released the information for the last week of 2022 that it will commit to tracking. It turns out that Jujutsu Kaisen continues to sell like hotcakes.
Between December 19th and December 25th, Jujutsu Kaisen sold a staggering 1,148,984 copies. A large portion of those sales were likely due to the Japanese release of Volume 21, which was released earlier this month. It is thanks to Twitter user @WSJ_manga that these Oricon numbers are readily available.
These numbers are also exceptional considering that Jujutsu Kaisen sold 12,282,260 copies from December 2021 to the end of November 2022. That means that in just one week, the series sold 10% of the sales it had seen for almost a year.
Jujutsu Kaisen doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all in terms of sales. However, mangaka Gege Akutami revealed at Jump Festa 2023 that the end of the manga could be just about a year away.
Sales for markets outside of Japan are not as readily available, but the Japanese release of the series is three volumes ahead of the English release as the 18th volume was released on December 20th.
This has been a big year for any medium in which you can find Jujutsu Kaisen, not just books. The film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 climbed to the seventh highest-grossing anime film this year after being released in Japan in December 2021 and then March 2022 everywhere. Since then, it has edged out Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You by two million.
