
Jules Thomas, the former partner of murder suspect Ian Bailey, Sophie Toscan du Plantier, has filed a court case against Netflix over his documentary series about the mysterious murder.
s Thomas is said to be unhappy with her performance Sophie: A Murder in West Cork and feels defamed.
The series was released on the streaming service last year.
Ms Thomas filed a proposed lawsuit against Netflix, the show’s director John Dower and the production company Lightbox in the High Court on Monday.
Such requests are typically made when one or more defendants reside outside of the country and court approval is required for service of out-of-jurisdiction proceedings.
Ms. Thomas, who is an artist, represents herself in the action.
She could not be reached for comment yesterday.
However, a source with knowledge of the matter shared this Irish Independent She had issues with her portrayal in the documentary series.
A request to Netflix for comment went unanswered.
Originally from Wales but long established in West Cork, Ms Thomas began a relationship with former journalist Bailey in the early 1990s.
Ms Thomas was attacked by Mr Bailey and was hospitalized in 2001 with a serious eye injury.
Her former partner was sent to Cork Prison and later convicted of domestic violence.
Despite the attack, she stood by Mr Bailey for many years while he was in the spotlight in connection with the death of Ms Toscan du Plantier and said she believes he is innocent.
However, they split last year.
Ms Toscan du Plantier, a French filmmaker, was beaten to death outside her home near Schull in December 1996.
Mr Bailey has been arrested twice in connection with her death but has never been charged and has always maintained his innocence.
In 2019, he was found guilty of murder after being tried in absentia by a court in France.
Mr Bailey described the French case as a show trial aimed at finding him guilty.
In 2020, the Supreme Court ruled that he could not be extradited to France. It was the third time French authorities had tried and failed to extradite him.
Last September, Ms Thomas attended a memorial concert for Ms Toscan du Plantier at a hotel in Schull.
