Julia Bradbury broke down in tears in an emotional video after being told she would have to have a mastectomy as part of her breast cancer treatment last year.
The 51-year-old TV presenter announced that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2021 last year.
A month later she had a mastectomy, and now she has given fans a glimpse of the moment she found out she had to undergo surgery.
Julia wrote on Twitter on April 14: “This is the moment I found out I need a mastectomy. Absolute shock, sadness and fear at cancer but the impact a diagnosis has on a person and their family and friends #cancertreatment.
In the short 12-second clip, Julia can be seen covering her face with her hands while shaking and then says, “I have…” before trailing off, letting out a deep sigh and looking down with tears in her eyes looks.
Fans of the star were quick to flock to the comments section with words of support and admiration.
One wrote: “Full respect for your honesty. You will help others by making this public. Thanks very much. You are a class.”
While another added: “So brave to share this. 7 years later I still feel the physical reaction to my diagnosis. The call, the ground being pulled out from under me, and the real feeling of falling into a very black hole. Thank goodness for science and healthcare, but I’ll never forget the feeling.”
The Countryfile presenter, 51, had her left breast removed in October after receiving her cancer diagnosis.
She shared an impressive topless picture of herself just before her surgery.
Alongside it, she wrote: “I’m taking my last walk in this body. I’m taking my last walk with these boobs.
“One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received over the weeks of my breast cancer diagnosis (thank you)…is to say goodbye to my breast and thank my body for all the nourishment, joy and life it has given me.”
But more recently, last month, the TV host took to Instagram to promote Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, while sharing an update on her battle with breast cancer.
She wrote: “To anyone who is on a cancer journey right now… I know it’s difficult. I know the ups and downs of every appointment and every day can be tough but we humans are resilient and there is some amazing support out there for all of us.
“Thank you @maggiescentres for all of your safe and comfortable places to talk or just be.
“Thank you @ovariancanceraction for all your research on the silent killer ovarian cancer. It’s #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth – see my post from yesterday on symptoms to watch out for and take her #WalkInHerName Step Challenge.”
She then thanked other people, writing: “Thank you @futuredreamscharity @pinkribbonfoundation @preventbreastcancer @oriordanliz @owisebreast @breastcancernow @macmillancancer @blackwomenrisinguk @brcasisters @draindollies.
“And all the other breast cancer charities for your support and connections to the community. send love [heart emoji].”
Julia then added a quote from Walt Whitman: “Turn your face towards the sunshine and the shadows fall behind you. —Walt Whitman.
