Julia Bradbury shares heartbreaking pre-mastectomy moment
Julia Bradbury has confessed she feared she would ever fly or wear a bikini again after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The former Countryfile presenter, 51, underwent a mastectomy in October. She had her breast and two lymph glands removed before undergoing reconstruction surgery.
And to speak Hi! magazine Explaining her luxury holiday in Mauritius with her partner Gerry and their three children, Zephyrus, 10, and twins Xanthe and Zena, seven, and seven-year-old twins Xanthe and Zena, she said: “I feel like I’m embracing everything now, to grab everything that life has to offer with open arms.
“I wasn’t sure if I would ever travel again – let alone if I would ever wear a bikini again.”
The presenter added that while she’s always appreciated the “healing power of nature,” she does so even more after her health crisis.
Julia’s cancer career began when she discovered a lump in her breast two years ago. After undergoing a mammogram, doctors advised her that she had a series of harmless microcysts in her breast and was advised to return for another mammogram a year later.
Her second mammogram in July 2021 gave the same result, but as the lump in her breast was becoming increasingly sore and tender, Julia was sent for an ultrasound.
She continued: “I’m still on the acute end of getting through my diagnosis and coming to terms with everything so life is very elevated.
“The sky is a deeper shade of blue, nature’s patterns are more prominent than usual. I record everything.”
Julia revealed that she used her illness to help her “reset” any emotional and physical health issues she was dealing with and went on to say that she now meditates daily.
She also confessed that she now gets at least eight hours of sleep every night and has stopped drinking almost all of her alcohol.
She added, “It will be a long time before you see me dancing on tables again — and I love dancing on tables.”

Julia went on to reveal that she had promised her children at the start of their holiday that she would grant their every wish, from swimming to trekking to eating ice cream, but only one a day.
She added: “They are that size for such a short time: you blink and they’re gone.
“I want to enjoy each of these moments and they are even bigger and more precious now.”
