Julian Sands’ family thanks authorities for ‘heroic’ efforts as search continues

The family of Julian Sands has praised the “heroic” efforts of the California authorities in the search for the missing British actor.
The statement shared by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office thanked the various organizations involved in the effort to find the actor, as search operations enter their 11th day.
Sands was first reported missing on January 13 in the Baldy Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains in southern California.
In the statement, his family said they were “deeply moved” by the support they have received in the days since his disappearance.
“We would like to thank the compassionate members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department who are coordinating the search for our dear Julian, especially the hero search teams listed below, who are in desperate need of help. despite difficult conditions on the ground and in the air to bring Julian home. ” statement read.

The statement went on to list the various organizations involved in the search, including local and out-of-county forces, as well as sniffer and cave dog teams.
In a statement sharing the statement, the police department added: “As we enter the 11th day of the search for Julian Sands on Mt. Baldy, we are reminded of the sheer determination and selflessness of all who have supported this quest.
“We will continue to use the resources available to us.”
On Monday, a police department spokesman told the PA news agency that conditions were still too dangerous for ground crews to operate and that searches would only be conducted by helicopter.
It comes after federal agencies joined the effort to find Sands, using cell phone forensics to help locate the actor.
It was previously revealed that the ping from Sands’ phone appeared to indicate he was traveling further to the mountainous Baldy Bowl area on the day he was reported missing.

The department also told PA earlier that there is still “no fixed deadline” and “no set date” for canceling the efforts – and the incident is still being classified as a search and rescue operation. .
Last week, they urged hikers to “think hard and heed the warnings,” saying their search and rescue teams responded to 14 calls on Mount Baldy and the surrounding area. around within four weeks.
Sands was born in Yorkshire and moved to Los Angeles in 2020.

From 1984 to 1987, Sands was married to future Evening Standard and Today editor Sarah Sands, with whom he had one son. He also has two daughters with journalist Evgenia Citkowitz, whom he married in 1990.
