The hall came alive with the Sound of Music cast chatting at a recent gala in memory of actress Julie Andrews, who reunited 57 years after the musical film was released.

Julie, 86, met five of the seven actors who played von Trapp children in the 1965 film when she received the American Film Institute’s highest honor, the Life Achievement Award.

She joins Debbie Turner, 65, who left acting after playing Marta on screen, and Duane Chase, 71, who had a career in forestry and geology after playing Kurt.

They starred Angela Cartwright, 69, the on-screen daughter of the late Paul Newman in Somebody Up There Like Me (1956) before she played Brigitta von Trapp.

Nicholas Hammond, 72, who played Friedrich and went on to play Spider-Man in a 1970 TV show, and Kym Karath, 63, who played Gretl, von Trapp’s youngest, join them.

Sadly the reunion was without Charmian Carr, who played Leisl, when she died in 2016 aged 73, nor Heather Menzies, who played Louisa, when she died in 2017 aged 68.

A gala dinner in Los Angeles yesterday (June 9) saw the American Film Institute pay tribute to Julie – who won an Oscar in 1965 for her leading role in Mary Poppins (1964).
