Milner He turned 36 last month and his current Liverpool contract expires on July 1.
The midfielder made his 800th appearance for the club in a 2-0 win over Inter Milan last week and the milestone has been followed by discussions about his future.
Milner remains a key player for the Reds and has made 25 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Klopp recently said that “the club are in talks with Milly” after extending his stay with Liverpool, but he has now used his program notes ahead of Wednesday’s game against Leeds to clarify the situation.
“It’s no secret that James is in the final year of his current contract – and again – I emphasize ‘current’,” he wrote.

“I recently talked about the ‘negotiations’ going on to extend his stay with us and I thought it might make sense to use the platform to clarify that as I have seen some misleading reports surrounding it.
“Through our conversations, I mean I have expressed my wish that James will stay with us after this season, for a place. James will continue to play, he told me this. So he should, by the way.
“His level, physically, technically and in terms of personal hunger and thirst for more, means he will keep playing for as long as that lasts.
“I hope it stays here and that’s what I said to the people at the club who take on these duties.
“It’s not fair or right to come to the conclusion that an offer has been made, because I don’t think it’s fair to James.
“I know I don’t usually go into detail on issues like this, but because of how dedicated James is to not bringing private things into the public domain, I wanted to make the point of fact clear.

“In this case, these will be dealt with privately and James will continue to do for us what he has been doing throughout my time with him.
“He gives his all, he helps the team and he sets the standards. We are all very lucky to have him at our club. ”
Milner joined Liverpool on a free transfer from City of Manchester in June 2015 after his contract expired.
He has made 275 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool – the majority of them under Klopp, who arrived at the club in October 2015.
“What he does for us is very valuable,” Klopp added on the show.
“And I decided to keep my language in the present tense because he keeps doing it, day in and day out.
“He hasn’t changed during my time at LFC and I was thinking the other day that I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to try and do all this without him here. .”
