Jurgen Klopp has revealed what will be the message for Liverpool players ahead of the last day of a Premier League season that could still end in ultimate success for the Reds.

Manchester City go into the final week a mere point clear of their title rivals, who an impressive 2-1 away win at Southampton ensured Pep Guardiola’s side remained under pressure until the final day .

Liverpool welcome Wolves to Anfield knowing they can only beat Bruno Lage’s side and hope the result goes their way at the Etihad. City are at home against an Aston Villa side led by Anfield legend Steven Gerrard, who will be desperate to help his former side with a shock result in Manchester.

Reflecting on how the club will approach their final game of the season, Klopp explained: “We all know. We never gave up. We’ll try, it’s our home game, the last home game of the season.”

“The atmosphere will be excellent. We’ll try to take advantage of it. We have to do our job. Football is a tricky game sometimes. Aston Villa play on Thursday and then on Sunday. We’ll see, but you have to focus on yourself .” “

Klopp has been asked for an opinion on whether he thinks Liverpool’s chances of a second league title in three seasons are slim. “Obviously it’s unlikely because City are playing Aston Villa at home, who don’t play until Thursday,” admitted the German.

“It’s going to be tough against Burnley, they’re fighting to survive. But it’s football. I think the time when City won the championship [in 2019] it was 11 millimeters. If anyone wants us to be champions, we have to win first and Aston Villa have to get a point at City.

However, Klopp refused to end on a pessimistic note and called on everyone linked with the club not to give up hope of a remarkable win just yet – reminding them: “It’s possible, not likely, but possible. That’s enough .”

His sentiments were echoed by veteran eventer James Milner, who told Sky Sports Liverpool: “Try to win our game. That’s all we can do and that’s what we’ve been trying to do since January after falling so far behind and we went back for that in January and had a mental reset if you will and we’ve really pushed since then.”

Milner praised City before once again exuding optimism. “They’re an incredible side to play against this season and I think we’ve done ourselves proud this season but we won today and we tried to keep the pressure on Manchester City going into the weekend.”
