Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is optimistic that Fabinho will be fit for the Champions League final against Real Madrid later this month.
The Brazilian midfielder was substituted with a hamstring problem in Tuesday’s win at Aston Villa, which saw him eliminated in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea and in their last two Premier League games against Southampton and Wolves.
However, Klopp hopes he can call Fabinho for the European spectacle on May 28 in Paris.
“There’s a good chance he’ll be available for the Champions League final,” said the Reds manager, who remains confident they can absorb his absence for the remainder of their domestic season.
“We have to. Because we can deal with it. Having it or not having it is a difference, but it’s all right. It’s normal what happens.
“It’s never in a position where you have 12 options, it’s always in a position where you (don’t) have.
“We have a few players. Hendo came (against Villa) and played amazingly, he’s been great in (number) six this season, so that’s not a problem.
With Henderson called up for the defensive midfield role he has played on occasion this season, it means Klopp will likely rely on Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita to equalize his three in center against Chelsea.
James Milner and Curtis Jones, who have made their first starts at Villa Park since early April, are Klopp’s backup options and with a spot in the matchday squad now becoming available, it could mean Harvey Elliott or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to make the cut for Premier League games in recent months.
