Jurgen Klopp prepares Liverpool for final in Premier League title race

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits even he thinks it looks like they cannot win the remaining 10 games to be crowned Premier League champions again.

Anchester City’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace means Klopp’s men can close the gap to a point with a win over Arsenal on Wednesday knowing they still have to go to the Etihad next month.

In the season they won the title against Man City 2018-19 they won their last nine games only as Pep Guardiola’s side scored 14 consecutive wins to finish with a point.

Klopp admits they will approach their duties more like a series of ‘final matches’.

“That’s the plan, of course, we keep being as annoying as we can but we have to win our football matches,” he said.

“If I sit here and say we won 10 games that doesn’t sound very likely, but as long as we can, I can tell you we’ll do our best.

“If you go through the last few years, it has never been different. Not sure how many years in my entire career we didn’t give everything we had until the last day of the game because something was out there to take.

“Do you have to stay in the league? Is it a Europa League spot or a Champions League spot or being a champion or whatever?

“We’ve reached the quarter-finals in two competitions (they won the Carabao Cup and face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup this weekend) and in the Premier League we’re not in the worst possible position.

“It’s a long ending but we’ll see what happens.

“It was final after final to final after final that we played. That’s it. That’s how we prepare it, how we set it up.

“What different kinds of situations could there be there? That we’re 10 points ahead and 10 games to go and everyone tells you you’re over and asks where is the celebration going?

“I tell you it, it feels really uncomfortable – not that often happens in my life – but really uncomfortable sitting in that situation.

“Now everything is in front of us: attack it, chase it, go for it.”

Klopp’s side are currently on an eight-game winning streak in the Premier League but even after their last win – a 2-0 win over Brighton – he asked them for more.

“You say we won the last eight games. Imagine we lost one of them? It’s still going to be a good game, seven games, one defeat, but for us it’s like ‘Oh my God!’.

“Being in a good mood, not like crazy, just focused, focused and good.

“I know we don’t fly all the time but after the game against (Brighton) when I was talking in the dressing room and then I criticized that you see the boys’ faces like ‘What is he saying? so? What more can we do than win? ‘

“But it’s about getting on the right track, it’s about trying to improve even at the best of times.”

Klopp received a boost ahead of his trip to London with news Mohamed Salah is expected to be in the squad after a leg injury forced him out on Saturday.

“Mo is a hard cookie and he only got a little cut, we were pretty lucky with that. It’s swollen, it hurts, yesterday it was a little less swollen, it was less painful,” added Klopp.

“I’ve now received the notice before the press conference that Mo is ready to train and we’ll see what it looks like.” Jurgen Klopp prepares Liverpool for final in Premier League title race
