Aside from the obvious – the fact that one of the most talismanic, charismatic and brilliant managers English club sport has ever seen has made a commitment to Anfield by 2026 – there are plenty of reasons Liverpool fans should be excited.
Would Klopp have renewed his contract if he hadn’t been assured he would receive the transfer kitty size that would allow him to continue the fight against the financial giant Manchester City? no
Would Klopp have extended his contract if he hadn’t thought the current crop of academy kids was good enough to produce more gems in the shape of Trent Alexander Arnold, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott? no Would Klopp have extended his contract if he hadn’t been hugely impressed Fenway Sports Group Big plans for the club including stadium development? no
Make no mistake, this is a big deal for everyone involved. For the club, for the players, for the fans and most especially for Klopp himself. In recent years, in which he has spoken publicly or privately with Klopp on the subject, it has always been clear that he sees his time on British shores as limited looks at The attraction of his homeland is of course strong. Most of his friends and family live in his native Germany.
Outstanding professional achievements in every area of life must be balanced with quality of life, physical and mental well-being. He always made that clear. He’s also made it clear that fame, attention and living in the constant public and media spotlight all take their toll. Klopp, 54, likes a quiet pint as much as the next man or woman. He likes a bit of privacy just as much as the next man or woman.

And he brings so much intensity and passion to his job that he couldn’t imagine doing it continuously for decades. Don’t forget that the highs of football can be just as psychologically draining as the lows, strange as that may sound. But while you wouldn’t necessarily know it from his technical antics, Klopp may have found a balance. Maybe this remarkable season has not only given him renewed energy, but he’s also more relaxed.
He’s a giant of the game now and he probably knows it. And by the way, it shouldn’t be forgotten that Klopp is just as fond of a few pennies as he is of the next man or woman. Whatever the exact compensation, it will be reasonable. But this isn’t just about the money. Klopp has always railed against the idea of creating one Sir Alex Ferguson-Style Dynasty on the Manchester Motorway.
Perhaps his opinion has slowly changed. Perhaps this epic campaign got him thinking. It’s obviously prompted him to sign until 2026 – meaning he’ll be at the club for 11 years – but he might even be thinking beyond that. Maybe, just maybe, he’s thinking about the Fergie days. And for Liverpool Football Club that would be worth more than any quadruple.
