Jury deliberations began in the civil rape case involving filmmaker Paul Haggis

Juries began deliberations Thursday in a civil trial involving Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis and a journalist who accused him of rape.

The New York grand jury heard testimony for three weeks.

Haggis and accuser Haleigh Breest spent days giving their various accounts of what happened between them on January 31, 2013.

The two agree that he invited her to his apartment for a drink after they caught up with each other at a movie premiere.

Breest, 36, said Haggis quickly became sexually aggressive and, although she told him she was unwilling, forced her to perform oral sex and raped her.

Haggis, 69, says the meeting was by consensus and Breest has begun parts of it.

Breest is seeking unspecified damages from the writer-director.

He was a longtime television screenwriter before writing the Oscar-winning work for Million Dollar Baby and Crash in the early 2000s, and directing the latter.
