GARDAÍ investigates a violent attack on a teenager in a downtown Kerry area.
An area of Tralee town park was cordoned off just after 12pm on Wednesday as Gardaí launched an investigation into an attack in which the victim is believed to be a 17-year-old.
The incident happened early Wednesday as the Rose of Tralee Festival in the city of North Kerry drew to a close with hundreds of people gathering at various street entertainment events.
Large crowds celebrated Tralee as it hosted its first Rose event since 2019, the year before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to initial reports, the teenager was confronted and attacked as they were walking home.
Gardaí declined to comment on the exact nature of the attack.
The nature of the injuries the teenager sustained has not been specified, however they are not believed to be life-threatening.
“Gardaí is investigating an alleged attack that reportedly took place in Tralee Town Park on Wednesday (24 August),” said a Gardaí spokesman.
“Investigations into this matter are ongoing. No further information is available at this time.”
Detectives checked to see if anyone saw or heard suspicious activity in the city park area at the time.
Gardaí will also review CCTV surveillance camera footage of a number of buildings in the area.
