Experts say you shouldn’t drink more than 150ml of fruit juice a day and this is the exact amount of oranges you need to consume to help calm inflammation.

Chronic inflammation can lead to disability, often life-threatening illnesses.

These seven conditions include arthritis, lupus, bowel disease, asthma, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritisand type 1 diabetes, experts say.

A new report on how hidden inflammation is damaging our immune response, suggests that the vitamin C in orange juice may help play a protective and therapeutic role in our health. .

Professor Philip Calder, co-author of the report and Professor of Nutritional Immunology at the University of Southampton explained its therapeutic role.

“Vitamin C affects inflammation by regulating cytokine production, and we know that too much cytokine can wreak havoc on inflammation.

“Vitamin C also helps increase antibody levels by supporting the development of T and B lymphocytes, which are types of white blood cells that promote and direct our immune response,” he said.

Vitamin C is found in many foods like citrus fruits, bell peppers, and even white potatoes.

You can also get a vitamin C supplement if you think you’re not getting enough from your diet.

The NHS says that adults aged 19 to 64 need 40mg of vitamin C a day.

It cannot be stored in the body, so you need to make sure to include foods containing vitamin C in your daily diet.

Dr. Carrie Ruxton nutritionist at Fruit Juice Science Center “Inflammation can seriously damage our immune health; a problem we call ‘inflammatory disease’,” says Dr.

“It’s not good for our health during a pandemic because people with chronic underlying inflammation tend to get worse when they have Covid symptoms.

“It’s more important than ever that people follow dietary and lifestyle changes that can help control inflammation and support immune function – with one simple example being a glass of water.” 100% fruit juice every day.”

One of the main reasons why orange juice is beneficial is because of its flavonoids.

This is a group of polyphenols that help reduce inflammation and may also improve gut health.

Dr. Ruxton explains that two types of flavonoids stand out.

“This is hesperidin and naringenin, and one benefit of juicing over whole fruit is that flavonoids are absorbed more efficiently by the body, which is why a glass of juice adds whole fruits and vegetables.” fruit in your diet.

“This is because the slightly higher fiber content in whole fruit (under 1g) slows down and inhibits the absorption of polyphenols – so you get proportionally less in your blood,” she says.

One glass of orange juice provides about 78mg of hesperidin.

A study previously published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that orange juice reduced inflammation.

It was conducted on women with metabolic syndrome who were given 500mg of hesperidin daily for three weeks.

The medical team found that this significantly reduced the blood levels of the inflammatory marker CRP.

The report by Dr Buxton and her team shows that many Britons are not aware of the problems chronic inflammation can cause.

A quarter said chronic inflammation affects the body’s ability to fight infections, and more than a third said it can cause fatigue.

One in three also said it could lead to poor metabolic health.

Dr Ruxton added: “Focus on increasing our vegetable and fruit intake to eight days a day, which may include a daily glass of orange juice, minimizing stress and staying away from inflammatory foods rich in saturated fats and starches are some simple steps that everyone can start with.”
