Just when you thought Andor’s royal prison couldn’t get any worse, episode 9 turned the last century upside down

Episode 8 highlights how the Empire’s prison complex was specifically designed to reduce prisoners to cogs in a capitalist machine where there is no space for hope or rebellion. Despite these impossibilities, Cassian tries to find loopholes in the system and finds that the guards are at their weakest while bringing in a newbie on the job level. Upon closer inspection, Cassian realized that the elevators were not charged, which gave them an extremely narrow exit window. Since it was too early to come up with a real escape plan, Cassian continued to scrutinize his surroundings.

Meanwhile, rumors about Level 2 began to spread, causing inmates on other levels to stir. While Cassian and Taga (Tom Reed) want to know more about the situation, Kino Loy (Andy Serkis) insists that they have no reason to feel agitated by a rumor that could be true. Despite his tough stance, Loy seems shaken by this new development, as it jeopardizes his eventual hopes of freedom. With 217 more shifts, Loy doesn’t want to give up this hope, which is why he rejects Cassian’s questions about the number of guards present on each level.

However, after a tragic incident with Ulaf (Christopher Fairbank), Cassian and Loy learn the truth about the Level 2 incident. After a prisoner is released from prison and released, the guards inadvertently place he entered the same level by mistake. Fearing that this might cause a riot, the guards defeated each prisoner on Level 2. None of them ever had a chance to escape the pit of hell: the illusion of freedom, and the hope that came with it, was finally dashed.
