Justin Bieber seeks dismissal of US $20 million defamation lawsuit

Justin Bieber has filed a motion to dismiss a $20 million defamation lawsuit he initiated in 2020.

The pop star was accused of sexual assault by two social media users in 2014 and 2015, which he staunchly denied.

At the time, he accused the users of “outrageous lies” that were “demonstrably fabricated”.

But last week, according to documents obtained by the PA news agency, the Sorry singer’s lawyers called for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

It is unclear whether a settlement has been agreed between the parties.

The first allegation came from a social media user who claimed to have been assaulted at an Austin, Texas hotel on March 9, 2014.

In response, Bieber posted screenshots from messages from the day of the alleged attack, showing him with then-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

The second allegation was that Bieber assaulted a woman at the Langham Hotel in New York in May 2015.

Bieber’s lawsuit described the allegations as “an elaborate hoax motivated by the accuser’s desire for fame and attention.”
