Kanye West will not be headlining Coachella later this month after the rapper reportedly canceled his scheduled gig.
The 44-year-old musician was due to take the big stage alongside fellow rapper Travis Scott, but it has now been said neither will be in attendance.
The star, now legally known as Ye, is said to be staying out of the public eye following a series of online outbursts against estranged wife Kim Kardashian and her new boyfriend Pete Davidson.
A source tells page six It’s likely that The Weeknd will now take his place as headliner.
They said, “Kanye has definitely retired from Coachella. He didn’t rehearse or set up a production. Travis Scott should join him on stage.
“Now it would be virtually impossible for him to put it together. Look for The Weeknd to replace him.”
The insider added, “Kanye is retiring because he wants to stay out of the public eye after all the drama with Kim and Pete, he wants to get help.”
Kanye was originally slated to be one of the headliners for the massive music festival in Los Angeles between April 5th and 24th alongside Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and Swedish House Mafia.
But now – and after pressure from the event to remove him from their list, including 50,000 petition signatures – he has taken it upon himself to step down.
Following Kanye’s very public outbursts, he received a 24-hour Instagram ban last month for his racist tirade against Trevor Noah.
He has not posted to the social media platform again since then.
A spokesman for Instagram said TMZ at the time the Gold Digger singer had violated company policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying with his recent outbursts.
Kanye, who split from Kim, 41, in February last year, had also berated ex-Kim’s new husband Pete, calling him “Skete,” in the weeks leading up to his ban.
Among his other outrageous lashings, Kanye claimed he feared the 28-year-old Saturday Night Live comedian could cause the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star to become “addicted to drugs.”
Ye and Kim share children North, Saint, Psalm and Chicago, and the singer wrote on Instagram, “I’m really concerned that SKETE [his nickname for Pete] will make the mother of my children addicted to drugs. He’s in rehab every 2 months.”
He wrote this along with a screenshot of a fan comment that read, “The way Skete used Kim’s marital status to address Kanye was a secret diss to her and she didn’t even realize it.” [sic].
