The Japan international shone after being sent into the closing stages as the hosts chased a winner in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle.
Potter said: “He’s going to cause a problem for full-backs.
“He has this ability to walk past people that is quite unique and I thought he was a fantastic influence.
“We talked about it before the game.
“It was impossible for all 11 to last 90 minutes.
“Our subs and the impact they had were key for us.
“I thought they did well but we couldn’t get the three points.
“He can mix it up and he can play central from the left with his right foot, come on the pitch and drive there, so he’s a bit of a defender’s nightmare.
“I wouldn’t have wanted to play against him, that’s for sure!”
