Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno revealed the band almost disbanded last year after former frontman Tom Meighan was fired after he was found guilty of assaulting his wife.
Meighan was given an 18-month community order and ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work for beating his girlfriend Vikki Ager in 2020 while intoxicated.
The band was said to be ready to replace Meighan with former The Music lead singer Rob Harvey but when the move didn’t materialize, Pizzorno, 41, took on vocal duties on his own.
Now, the quartet is gearing up to release their seventh studio album ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’ on August 5 – the first since Meighan’s departure.
‘Serge’, drummer Ian Matthews, bassist Chris Edwards and guitarist Tim Carter have revealed details about their new record at an exclusive event at an undisclosed location in London.
After revealing his initial reluctance to become the leader of the group, he said Sun : “I’m really happy – I’m a tube and a slipper. I don’t need a casual job, being with me is very happy.
“It keeps me up all night, thinking about it. But it has to be. I love these boys, we’re a bunch of brothers. I need to step up or it stops. So it doesn’t matter. if i like it or not, you have to.
“I watched videos of all the greats and took notes. I started taking notes with Elvis, watching him a little, watching a little Freddie Mercury. Memorizing a little of this, a little of that, writing a little bit of that. a little Iggy Pop. I took a little bit from everyone.”
Next up for the band is a supporting role in two sold-out Knebworth performances next week by former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.
And Pizzorno says a party is good and absolutely necessary after Covid and because the ‘madness’ is now covering the world, with Knebworth being the ‘biggest, best party we’re happy to be at’ participation’.

Meighan, meanwhile, made his own return to the stage last month during his The Moving On tour at the O2 Academy in Leeds.
The 41-year-old then went on to play a day further away in his hometown of Leicester, before playing for Liverpool, Bristol, London, Manchester and Birmingham.
