Kate and Williams’ touching words to Grenfell survivors showed they genuinely care after meeting activists.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge yesterday supported the survivors of Grenfell Tower’s search for justice as the fifth anniversary of the disaster was marked.

Survivor Tiago Alves, 25, said the Cambridges met 11 Grenfell United activists, as well as children and some of the bereaved.

And he said they appeared “sincerely concerned about their plight.”

Tiago said: “You were introduced to some of the committee members. We explained to them what our struggles were, who we were and what we were doing.

“We’ve tried to give them a taste of what it was like to be us, even if it’s only for five minutes, so they understand why we fight the way we fight and why justice is so important.

“They said they were very supportive of what we stood for and what we were doing and (said) to keep up the good work.

“It’s always nice to have people of that size who can empathize with our struggle and struggle.

“Hopefully it will continue to help us get justice in the future.

“They really seemed to care. They seemed more genuine than some of the politicians I’ve met. You could see that there were some emotions.

“In order for us to continue our struggle and our struggle, we need to make an impression on these people.

“Although they have no political power, they do influence how we see it as a country.

“It was a general conversation about all the work we’ve done at Grenfell United but also as bereaved and survivors.”

Leveling Up Secretary Michael Gove said: “The tragedy of Grenfell Tower must never happen again and our thoughts are with the bereaved, survivors and residents at this incredibly difficult time.”
