Kate Ferdinand says she was ‘naive’ about becoming a stepmother

Kate Ferdinand has shared some adorable snaps of her baby son watching her on TV.

The doting mum, 30, appeared on Loose Women on Tuesday and opened up about becoming a stepmother to husband Rio Ferdinand’s three children with his late wife Rebecca Ellison.

One viewer who tuned in to see the former TOWIE star on the ITV show was Baby Cree, one who Kate shares with retired footballer Rio.

Kate took to Instagram on Tuesday night and shared a few snaps of her little tot in his diaper as she watched her appear on the daytime TV show.

The fitness fanatic proudly captioned the adorable pics to her 1.4million followers: “Mom… [love-heart face emoji].”

The star’s fans and celebrity pals loved the cute update, with many commenting on the sweet shots.

“Absolutely LUSH,” quipped former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison, while This Morning host Rochelle Humes wrote, “The best mom.”

TOWIE star Georgia Kousoulou added: “No, that’s the cutest thing [love heart eyes emojis].”

Speaking on Loose Women on Tuesday, Kate explained how “naïve” she was becoming a stepmother in her husband Rio’s family while their stepchildren mourned the loss of their mother.

Rebecca Ellison died in 2015 at the age of 34 after a brief battle with breast cancer, tragically leaving Rio with her three children, Tate, 13, Lorenz, 15, and Tia, 10.

Kate met former Manchester United star Rio in 2017 and the couple married in 2019 and welcomed baby Cree into the world the following year.

Ahead of the first episode of her new podcast series on blended families, Kate spoke about the reality of joining a family where the children are grieving the loss of a parent.

Kate admitted she was “pretty naive” when she entered the situation, adding, “I thought I’d be fine.”

She said: “I didn’t really consider the dynamic. I have learned that I am very resilient and that a big heart can go a long way in life.”

Kate started Blended, an Instagram account and podcast series, as a community for other blended families to realize they are not alone.

The former reality TV star has previously explained how she considers herself a mother of four as she is raising Rio’s three children alongside her biological child Cree.

Speaking on social media ahead of Christmas, the stunning star admitted she dreads being asked, “Are they your kids?”

“I have 4 kids if you suggest I have 1 I’ll correct you,” the star wrote on the Blended Instagram account last year.

“If you treat one of them differently than the other 3, I have a big problem too. I believe all 4 children should be treated the same.”

The doting mum added: “If you ask if I’m her mother, I’ll say I’m her stepmother and although they’re not biologically mine, I still see them as my children; it’s my job to nurture and nurture them and make sure they get all the love they deserve.”
