Kate Garraway was forced to apologize on Friday’s Good Morning Britain show for a comment she made during a discussion about asylum seekers.
Kate and co-host Adil Ray invited Justice and Illegal Migration Minister Tom Pursglove to the ITV show to discuss the news that asylum seekers will be sent to Rwanda.
The interview got quite heated when Adil decided to speak and left it blank to ask Mr. Pursglove if he would ever come and live in Rwanda.
“You’re sending them to a country that last year the UK Foreign Office said it still had a serious concern when it came to human rights. That’s the UK Foreign Office!” Adil said.
“And say there’s no right there for LGBTQ members of our community and you’ll send everyone there.
“In 2018, the police shot and killed 12 protesters, refugee protesters. You’re sending people there, where’s the morality in that? Forget the legal obligations, forget the strategy, the ethics that our country has. On what do we and our reputation depend?” he continued.
Kate then chatted and said: “We brought 250 refugees into the UK from Rwanda last year, there must be a reason why we feel they have a case for safe harbor in the UK. Here and there it’s hard for people who think, ‘wait, we’re sending people to Rwanda that’s already scared’.”

When Mr. Pursglove tried to argue the case, Adil barged in and asked: “If yes, have you moved your family to Rwanda? If so, can you come and live in Rwanda?”
The Tory MP replied: “I don’t think that’s relevant”, but Adil has none and shouts: “Of course it does! If it’s not good enough for you, why is it good enough for you? Syrian or Afghan refugees?
“It has to get somewhere that we think is safe, these are the people, these are the people who have come to us for help!”
Adil then went on to repeatedly ask Mr. Pursglove if he planned to come and live in Rwanda as he tried to divert and avoid answering the question.
Then, when the ITV breakfast show returned from a commercial hiatus, mother-of-two Kate announced: “I just wanted to apologize. I made a mistake, a real mistake Adil.
“When we discussed with the Minister about people being taken as refugees from Rwanda… I made it clear, like you, that some people don’t think that Rwanda is a very safe place for people applying for asylum. refugee.
“I said 250 people who fled the country were granted asylum in the UK, that’s wrong, they were granted asylum in Europe in its entirety,” Kate continued.
“So I guess the problem is the same? The similarity is that they don’t feel safe in Rwanda, they want to go to Europe, but I want to get my facts clear and I apologize for the miscommunication. there,” she added.
Good Morning Britain airs at 6am weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub.
