Kate Garraway said the “whole” ITV crew brought Derek Draper down to their family’s garden, which was featured in the documentary Love Your Garden earlier this week.
The Good Morning Britain host documented the work she did in her garden to keep her family healthy, after Derek was left with serious health problems following his battle with Covid-19.
Derek was hospitalized for months before he was able to go home, but he still required round-the-clock care, partly supported by Kate and her two children.
The 54-year-old mentioned Love Your Garden on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain programme, joking to co-hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid that she realizes “a lot of Garraway around at the moment,” recently aired in her documentary Caring for Derek.
Kate said she shot the project last year, but it was “held up” by Covid-19, adding: “I did it during last season – it was Derek late last summer. ”
The Life Story host said their elevator in the garden was still not working, so the “Love Your Garden” team sent Derek into a flowery wonderland.
She added: “Thanks to their huge muscles. He was able to get out. It’s great.
“That’s one of the things we would say when he was in a coma, say we’d get you back in the garden chair.”
She continued: “When I found out the series was on the air, I had a totally feverish weekend with my dad in case someone flew by. I cleared a lot of debris, but of course it was the wrong time of year for a lot of those plants.”
Speaking of her and her family’s predicament with Derek’s condition on the show, Kate explained on Love Your Garden: “The garden needs to be more of a space to go in. I really want to plant some plants to improve our health and happiness. ”
When she started working on her garden, Kate admitted that she was excited by the prospect.
“I love the idea that there are plants that look good, smell good, and work well. I hope it works,” she said, as she began work on her garden, which will feature three different beds – one for plants that can be used to make tea, the other for medicinal plants, including both antioxidant and perennial plants. as a separate aromatherapy bed.
“If you look past the original beauty of the tree, it can give you so much more. I haven’t proven you can develop yourself well but I think I definitely learned that you can develop a happier self,” she says.
Good Morning Britain airs at 6am on weekdays on ITV.
