Kate Lawler on hitting bottom with her postnatal depression

Virgin Radio’s Kate Lawler has been hospitalized with a mysterious illness.

The 41-year-old radio host called her hospitalization “a wake-up call”.

Former Big Brother star Kate shared a health update on Instagram, telling her fans: “Yesterday was quite strange. Long story but I ended up in the hospital.

“I got home at 9pm and I feel a lot better today. I need to make some changes to feel better both mentally and physically.

“But it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself when you’re juggling so much. Still, it shook me up.”

She added, “Hope you’re all doing well today,” with a red heart emoji.

Kate rose to fame after becoming the first woman to win Channel 4’s Big Brother in 2002, and then appeared on the famous Love Island.

She now works as a drive-time presenter for Virgin Radio, having joined the team in 2019.

The mother-of-one recently opened up about her struggles with mental health and her battle with postnatal depression.

She said how she was forced to “abandon” her baby during rock bottom to keep her from doing something she would regret.

Speaking about Lorraine, she said: “For a lot of those early newborn days, I struggled every day.

“That was the moment I hit rock bottom, when I was in the deepest, darkest depths of postnatal depression.

“I had horrible thoughts about what I could do to myself and Noa.”

“I feel terrible because I felt like I almost did something like this, but I didn’t do it. I put her on the bed and ran upstairs and said to Boj, ‘I just can’t do it anymore’.”

She told Closer magazine that her partner Martin “Boj” Bojtos booked couples therapy during their fights.

At first, she explained that she was concerned he might want to break up with her, but he said what he really wanted was to “start their marriage on the right foot.”

She told the magazine: “With every month that goes by I feel better and Noa brings us so much joy, but there are times when tears come to my eyes because as a mother you juggle so much and everyone else comes first places.

“Before Noa, I was so independent and enjoyed my freedom, so it takes time to adjust to a different lifestyle.”

She added: “I feel for all the women who have had these feelings but couldn’t share them.

“It’s okay to love your child with every fiber of your being, but not to enjoy the day-to-day life of parenthood.”
