Kate Middleton shows off Mary Poppins in the rain at Buckingham Palace’s recent garden party

The soaked Duke and Duchess arrived alongside the Queen for their last garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace on May 25 in wet and windy weather

Kate Middleton slipped into the Queen’s final royal garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace looking just like Mary Poppins.

The Duchess of Cambridge was the image of the Disney character as she entered with Prince William, holding an umbrella to protect herself from the typically British drizzle.

She represented the monarch at the last outdoor meeting in London, which turned out to be another washout.

The mother-of-three sheltered under a pretty white parasol and wore an elegant mint green dress when she arrived at the palace gardens on Wednesday afternoon.

She represented the Queen, who previously confirmed she would not be attending any of the parties this summer and would instead be represented by other family members.

Despite the weather, Kate was in high spirits and beamed as she spoke to guests as the rain dripped from her umbrella.

Her Majesty, 96, has been suffering from mobility issues of late which has led to her withdrawing from events.

However, she has made several appearances in the past week, including the opening of the Elizabeth Line and a visit to the Royal Chelsea Flower Show, which she attended in a buggy.

Buckingham Palace previously confirmed she has “episodic mobility issues” and is in consultation with her doctors.

The Queen was absent from her first of four royal garden parties since the pandemic, which took place on May 11 and also experienced wet weather.

Prince Charles and Camilla were there to fill in for the monarch, along with Anne, the Princess Royal.

Around 8,000 guests attended the event, which was the first party at the palace since 2019.

Kate stepped in for the Queen to host her second garden party on May 18, along with Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Princess Alexandra.

Buckingham Palace gardens have been transformed for the occasion with covered awnings, marquees and red carpets on the lawns.

A Royal Tea Tent was also erected, where Queen Elizabeth usually meets some of her guests.

Traditionally, the Queen hosts three garden parties a year at Buckingham Palace and a fourth at Holyrood House in Scotland.

The fourth and final party of 2022 takes place on June 29th at the Palace of Holyrood House.

Due to the pandemic, 2020 saw royal summer garden parties for the first time in three years.
