Kate Moss: “I was 15 when a photographer told me to take off my top. I got my stuff and ran away’

Kate Moss has spoken openly about running away from a photo shoot aged 15 after a man asked her to take off her bra.

The supermodel recalled the incident during an appearance on BBC radio Desert Island DiscsShe told host Lauren Laverne that the experience “honed her instincts.”

Moss (48) signed with the Storm model agency in 1988 after being discovered when she was 14.

I can spot a bug a mile away

“I had a terrible experience for a bra catalogue. I was probably only 15 and he said, “Take your top off,” and I took my top off. I was very shy at the time because of my body,” she said.

“I could feel something was wrong so I grabbed my stuff and ran away.

“I think it sharpened my instincts. I can spot a bug a mile away.”

The model’s earliest editorial covers were for face Magazine in 1990 when she was 16, and appeared on the cover twice that year, first in May and again in July.

Speaking about the July cover, which was shot by the late photographer Corinne Day, Moss said it was one of her “painful” memories.

“The hooked nose that’s on the cover used to say, ‘Snout like a pig,’ to get this picture,” she said of Day. “I’d say, ‘I don’t want to sniff like a pig,’ and she’d say, ‘Sniff like a pig and it’ll look good.'”

In a photo from the shoot, Moss appears naked but covers her body with her hands and a beach hat. In another, she appears topless with a feathered headdress.

She would say, “If you don’t take your top off, I won’t book you ‘ and I would cry

Moss said she “cried a lot” during the shoot because she wasn’t comfortable posing naked.

“I didn’t want to take off my top. I was very insecure about my body and she said, ‘If you don’t take your top off, I won’t book you ell‘ and I would cry,” she claimed.

“It’s painful because she was my best friend and I really loved her, but she was a very difficult person to work with.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Moss spoke openly about feeling like a “scapegoat” in the early 2000s when she was criticized for “glorifying” being thin and using drugs.

Moss, who grew up in Croydon, south London, said she defended her ex Johnny Depp in his recent libel trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard because she felt she “needed to tell that truth”.

She said: “I know the truth about Johnny. I know he never kicked me down the stairs.

“I had to tell this truth.”

Moss, who rose to fame in the 1990s, was involved with the Hollywood actor between 1994 and 1998.

Moss testified during the May trial and appeared in the Virginia courtroom via video link.

Johnny Depp ran back to help me, carried me to my room

During her testimony, which lasted just over two minutes, Moss said Depp did not “push, kick or throw” me down any stairs while they were together.

From Gloucestershire, Moss said the allegation about the incident at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica was untrue and Depp came to her aid.

“We left the room and Johnny left the room before me and there had been a rainstorm,” she said.

“As I left the room, I slipped down the stairs, hurt my back and screamed, not knowing what had happened to me.

“He came running back to help me, carried me to my room and got me medical attention.” Kate Moss: “I was 15 when a photographer told me to take off my top. I got my stuff and ran away’
