Katherine Jenkins recalled a sweet moment between herself and the Queen over a dinner.

The 41-year-old singer said that the gesture of kindness made her love the king even more after that.

Jenkins will be participating in a number of celebrations over the Platinum Jubilee weekend, including performing at a special outdoor concert at Sandringham on Friday night alongside The Military Wives Choirs.

Reminiscing about her most cherished memory with the Queen, the opera singer recalls the time she was invited to an intimate lunch at Buckingham Palace when she was in her 20s.

She explained that after her meal was served, she panicked when presented with a large glass of water and a selection of fruit that she “didn’t know what to do”.

Jenkins said: “I looked over at the Queen and sensed my discomfort, she met my eyes as if to say ‘follow me’.

“I watched her take the fruit, wash it in water and pat it dry with gauze.

“I am so grateful that she did it with such care to save me shame. I loved her even more after that.”

Welsh star Jenkins will also be featured in Song of Praise: Platinum Jubilee Special airing on the BBC.

Later that day, she’ll be one of the celebrities to travel in open-top double-decker buses decorated for decades-old celebrations as part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant contest.

The singer, who has performed for the Queen many times, said that knowing the king was watching her perform always made her “more stressed”.

She added: “Singing to her means you really need to show your best.

“No matter how many times I perform for her or meet her, whether it is in front of thousands of people or just over a small dinner, I will never reproach it.

“It’s a great honor and it’s lovely to be asked.”

Jenkins also congratulated the Queen on her 70-year history on the throne, adding: “You’ve made us all proud and I hope these celebrations show love and respect. and the deep gratitude the nation has for you. God save the Queen. ”
