Kathryn has spoken out against the negative reactions the show has received.

“All I can say is – these guys are amazing, leaders who push themselves forward year after year,” she said.

“They inspire thousands of people across the country to make healthy changes. That’s what we say about Campaign Transformation.

“We don’t aim for perfection. We want to make a difference in your life to be healthy and happy.

“All these guys came to the show for different reasons. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight to feel in shape and be happier with yourself.”

Team leader John talks about how he joined the program to help his mental health, rather than directly lose weight.

“I’m not completely focused on weight at the moment because I need to prepare well,” he said.

“I find it very difficult at the moment to get out there and run a little bit and that.

“I was suffering from a lot of depression. Now I’m on the right side of it. But, when the depression started to hit me, I lost motivation.”

Team leader Katie originally joined the Transformation Campaign just to lose weight but has now gained valuable skills from the program.


Katie told Ryan Tubridy: “I’ve been trying to lose weight, but I’m learning cooking skills and trying to present myself.

“And I never thought of that before I was on the show. So they opened my eyes to more things.”

It comes while the show is going “A more holistic approach” for health in this year’s series due to concerns that the show might trigger people with eating disorders.

Earlier this month, Ireland’s eating disorder association Bodywhys criticized From RTE hit show and claims it focuses too much on dieting, staying in shape and keeping weight.

“The people who created the program with us are very aware of the problem you mentioned.

“Like I said, we developed the program. It has changed and we certainly hope it will respond to a more holistic approach to overall health. ”
