Kathy Griffin’s recent makeover wasn’t an instant hit.
The comedian shared her experience of getting lip tattoos a short YouTube video Last Friday, she showed people how she went from being a skeptic to a full supporter of the procedure … after recovering from it.
In the video, Griffin gave fans a full look at her salon’s “lip blush” treatment, which is a semi-permanent tattoo meant to enhance the color and fullness of your lips. It appears she had the procedure in early July.
While the stand-up was excited to show off her new pout to her husband Randy Bick, he was terrified by his wife’s swollen lips. The music producer practically jumped off his desk before bursting into a hearty laugh.
Griffin prompted a similar reaction when she reached out to her friend and actress Kristen Johnston for a second opinion.
“I’m screwed, look at me,” she said to an almost speechless Johnston.
Trying to keep her composure, Johnston asked, “What have you done? That’s not real.”
The star then revealed her dramatically plump, bright red lips in a selfie.
“Well, Kristen thinks it’s striking. But we will go to the July 4th parade. I don’t think anyone can tell,” Griffin laughed.
The clownish pout didn’t last forever, though. After some healing, Griffin revealed that the swelling of her lips had stopped and the color had faded to a soft shade of pink.
The prankster admitted that she had underestimated As to how intense the healing process would be, she told People magazine: “I didn’t know it was going to be that bad. I couldn’t stop laughing, even though laughing was painful for about four days.”
