Katie Price opts for trial after denying restraining order violation

Katie Price faces a trial at Crown Court after she denied breaching a restraining order against her ex-husband’s fiancée over a message she had accused the couple of having an affair.

The 43-year-old former glamor model reportedly texted Kieran Hayler on Jan. 21 this year, branding his new partner Michelle Penticost a “c***ing whore” and a “gutter slag.”

Price, known professionally as Jordan, was barred from directly or indirectly contacting Penticost under a five-year injunction on June 3, 2019.

She has been fined hundreds of pounds for hurling a foul “abuse rant” at her during an argument in a schoolyard.

Price, wearing white sneakers, a green tracksuit and a black vest, appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and was accused of indirectly contacting Penticost in violation of the restraining order.

She was joined by her reality TV star fiancé Carl Woods, 33, who was sitting in the gallery.

The court heard her message to Hayler may have been prompted by an Instagram post from Penticost, which she denies was addressed to Price.

Price’s message read: “Tell your fucking whore piece of shit girlfriend not to start dating me.

“She’s on a restraining order so she shouldn’t try to piss me off as she’s going against her and I’m sure she doesn’t want people to know she was having an affair with you behind my back. That gutter cinder.”

Price, who became a household name around the turn of the millennium, stood in the dock to confirm her name, address and date of birth before pleading not guilty to the only charge that can be tried in either the county court or the Crown court

Joe Harrington, defending himself, said: “The issues relate to her mental health and the triggers that led to the sending of this message.”

When asked where she would like to hear the trial, Price said, “The Crown Court, please.”

District Judge Amanda Kelly said the offense carried a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison and warned Price, “You’re in really real danger of going to jail.”

She said: “This is a very serious allegation alleging that you indirectly used vile and mean language towards Ms. Penticost, a person whom an injunction prevented you from contacting directly or indirectly.”

The judge granted Price bail ahead of a May 25 plea and pre-trial hearing at Lewes Crown Court on the condition that she does not contact Ms Penticost, directly or indirectly, except to hand over children.

“It seems to me, Ms. Price, that all children involved in your past and present relationships need their adults to act like adults,” the judge said. “Stop subjecting them to very public arguments.”
