Katie Taylor says she would love a big fight at Croke Park with 80,000 people for Amanda Serrano rematch

Katie Taylor has repeated her desire to face Amanda Serrano in a rematch at Croke Park.

In an interview with DAZN in Las Vegas, where she attended last night’s world championship match between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol, Taylor said: “A rematch would be brilliant. I’m up for any challenge, I want to fight the best out there.

“I would love to fight in Ireland. A big fight in Croke Park with 80,000 people. That would probably be the only thing that could top what happened last week (at Madison Square Garden).”

“Imagine filling 80,000 seats, that would be something very special. It would also be easy to sell I guess,” she predicted.

The facial injuries Katie sustained during last weekend’s MSG showdown have healed and she was in a relaxed mood.

Katie Taylor has built a brand with universal appeal on her own terms. Contrary to McGregor’s Irish stage stereotype, Taylor’s modesty perhaps better reflects who we really are

When asked about the picture of her trainer Ross Enamait lifting her off her feet in the ring after the sentencing, she said they both thought it was an amazing picture.

“We’ve had such a long training camp for the fight and we’ve been thinking about the fight a lot over the past few months. It’s a very special moment for me and my coach who has also done a lot of hard work, my team and my family when you get your way.”

Taylor said she was pleased to learn that 1.5 million people had braced themselves for the fight. “There will also be fight of the year. It was just a great night for the sport.”

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, who was also in Las Vegas, has tried to dampen expectations that Taylor vs Serrano 11 will be held at GAA headquarters in October. He said he felt it was too late in the year for an outdoor stadium show.

But momentum is growing in favor of a fight in Dublin.

DAZN, which owns the TV rights to Katie Taylor’s fights, is understood to have no objection to the fight taking place in Croke Park despite the time difference to the US.

They consider their UK and Ireland subscriber base to be as important as their US market. The publicity generated by a first female battle for the top of a sold-out stadium show would skyrocket their subscription rates regardless of time zone.

Meanwhile, Amanda Serrano, who has been very active on social media since the fight, has claimed for the first time that she did not lose the contest at Madison Square Garden.

She tweeted last night: “A week later…I had a chance to reflect on fighting Katie. It was very close, but I didn’t lose. I’m sure. Next time I will leave no doubt. Can not wait! I went to a camp and I walked out a champion.”

Katie Taylor visited Canelo Alvarez’s dressing room before the fight to wish the Mexican, who is the best pound-for-pound male fighter in the world, all the best in his contest.

But in a stunning upset, Canelo suffered only his second loss since making his professional debut as a 15-year-old. His only previous loss came to Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

Russian Dmitry Bivol successfully defended his WBA light heavyweight title against Canelo, who fought well above his natural weight and could not handle Bivol’s power, speed and skill.

The three ringside judges all scored the contest 115-113 in favor of the undefeated Bivol, although the score didn’t reflect how dominant the winner was. He landed more punches in each of the 12 rounds than his opponent, who remains the undisputed super middleweight champion.
