GOOGLE notifies people when their contact information is published on the web.
The tech giant can recognize things like phone number, email address and even home address that appear in its search engine.
It sends warning popup to users for them to check and verify request removal.
The move is part of a larger push revealed by the firm to give billions more control.
With Google’s brand new Results About You tool, anyone can quickly submit a takedown request for anything about themselves that they don’t want online.
Of course, while the information doesn’t show up in Google searches, it still shows up on the sites that originally posted it, since Google has no control over what people post on their sites.
But at least the visibility of those details will be significantly reduced as they will no longer show up in Google Search.
However, according to Google, people need to opt-in to get the notifications.
So they won’t show up automatically unless you turn it on.
Also, the feature won’t be introduced until next year.
And when it lands, it will initially only be available in the US, so the UK and other places might have to wait a bit.
As Google notes, users can still submit removal requests if they discover any themselves.
“The tool makes it easier to submit requests to remove personal information from Google Search, but removal requests can also be submitted globally by anyone using our form-based system,” the company said.
