Labor could be a candidate against former party leader Jeremy Corbyn, Keir Starmer signaled.
The Labor The leader said he was on a mission to prevent Labor’s links to anti-Semitism – and did not rule out putting a candidate in Mr Corbyn’s seat at the next election.
Mr. Corbyn is suspended from Labor in October 2020 for his reaction to a damning report about the party’s handling of charges against anti-Semitism.
He has represented Islington North since 1983 but he will have to run as an independent if he does not win the whip back at the next election.
Mr Starmer has been pressed by the Mirror into his predecessor’s future as he achieves his campaign goal ahead of next month’s Birmingham Erdington by-election.

Asked about his plan to ensure Labor upholds the values he hopes to roll out across the country, Mr Starmer said: “I said I would get anti-Semitism out of the country. party from the roots in his acceptance speech.
“We’ve been doing that and we’ve made progress on it.”
Pressed over whether that would include the Labor candidate in Mr Corbyn’s seat, Mr Starmer said: “Well, Jeremy Corbyn no Labor whip at the moment.
“That’s the position he finds himself in, and it depends on his reaction to the anti-Semitism report.”
It made claims that Mr Corbyn could be dropped by the party in his safe seat in Islington North, which he has held since 1983.
Mr. Starmer also promised that he would take allegations of Islamophobia as seriously as anti-Semitism.
“There is absolutely no hierarchy here,” he said.
“We must eradicate Islamophobia the same way we must eradicate anti-Semitism.
“And we do it with the same determination and energy. And I’m as fully prepared to make tough decisions on Islamophobia as I am against anti-Semitism.”
When asked if he had spoken to Labor MPs interested in the matter, he said he “speaks to all of our MPs pretty well all the time” but admitted It is more difficult to stay in touch during Covid times.
“I have a good relationship with all of our MPs, I don’t think there’s any MP who can’t tell me what they think,” he added.
