Hollywood star Kevin Spacey “firmly denies” allegations he sexually assaulted three men in the UK, a court has heard.

Spacey, 62, emerged from a flurry of photographers and fans to appear at Westminster magistrate’s court in Central London.

The Oscar-winning American actor has been released on unconditional bail.

It means he can return to his home in the US before going to court next time.

Patrick Gibbs, the defense, said: “Mr Spacey categorically denies any wrongdoing in this case.

“He needs to answer these charges if he wants to move on with his life.”

Spacey was not asked to make a claim on five counts – four counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. Standing at the pier in a blue suit and dark tie, the actor confirmed his full name as Kevin Spacey Fowler, his address at an apartment in Waterloo, London, and his date of birth.

The court said he lived in the US, where he has family and a dog, and needed to be in the US to audition.

After being released on unconditional bail, Spacey smiled and nodded to deputy judge Tan Ikram. Spacey occasionally glanced toward the packed press benches and public galleries during the 28-minute hearing. The charges relate to the alleged offenses committed in London in 2005 against a man now in his 40s; in London in 2008 against a man now in his thirties; and in Gloucestershire in 2013 against a man now in his 30s.
