Kickstarter CEO Aziz Hasan resigns

Kickstarter CEO Aziz Hasan resigns. In a blog titled “Go forward with gratitudeHasan says COO Sean Leow will be interim CEO and that the search for a permanent replacement is already underway.

In conversation with Fast companyHasan says “personal reflections” and a desire to spend more time with his family influenced his decision to leave Kickstarter after three years.

“I’m so proud of the work we’ve done together,” Hasan writes. “Leading such a passionate, capable and dedicated team through intense moments of change, milestones and complex challenges has been a humbling and rewarding experience.”

He touted the company’s achievements under his leadership, including reaching $6 billion raised by 20 million supporters.

Hasan’s announcement comes a few months after the company said it would be developing a decentralized version of Kickstarter and moving to blockchain. A backlash soon followed, forcing the company to a supplementary declaration saying it would slow down the rollout to “listen [the] Feedback” and address concerns from creators and backers.

Kickstarter and the company’s leadership were also criticized for this in 2019 – just months after Hasan was named CEO Refusal to voluntarily recognize Kickstarter United, its workers’ union. Workers voted to unionize the following year, becoming one of the first technology unions in the United States. Kickstarter that same year lost about 40 percent of its workforce on layoffs and takeovers as a company to contend with a sharp drop in new projects early in the pandemic.

Hasan will remain as an advisor over the next few months while the Kickstarter board searches for a new CEO. His last day will be April 4th. Kickstarter CEO Aziz Hasan resigns
