Kildare recorded victory number five of the Christy Ring Cup with a nine-point win over Sligo.
Manager David Herrity, who had already secured a place in next weekend’s finals, called the changes and introduced 8 members of the panel and he was rewarded with a good performance.
When Mark Delaney scored after nine minutes, Kildare went into a four-point lead they never gave up.
Andy Kilcullen and Gérard O. Kelly Lynch kept Sligo’s scoreboard ticking in the first half with six and two points respectively.
Brian Byrne on six points and Mark Delaney 2-1 had led Kildare 12-1 to 8-0 at the break.
Sligo threatened a comeback in the second half with goals from Tommy Cawley and Andy Kilcullen and by 60 minutes they had reduced the deficit to four.
Kildare ended up stronger and when Shane Ryan scored on 64, Kildare was assured of victory number five.
To Sligo’s credit they never gave up and caused a lot of problems for Kildare in the last 35 minutes.
