King Puck ‘back in the shadows’ after being placed back in cage atop 50ft throne for the night

King Puck is back in the shadows after being reinstated to the throne last night as temperatures dropped.

In a statement released today, organizers of the Puck Fair festival in Killorglin, Co. Kerry said hourly veterinary checks of the goat will continue throughout the day.

“Following veterinary checks and a clean bill of health, King Puck was reinstated in the stands last night after temperatures dropped. Today he is back in the shade with plenty of cold water and food while his hourly checks continue,” the statement said.

Today is known as Scattering Day at the festival. It will see the end of the three day event and the formal dethroning of the Puck Goat.

This is the second time the goat has been taken down following public outcry that the wild mountain goat was placed on a 50-foot high stand in a heat wave.

Speaking last night, Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae welcomed the decision to reintroduce the goat, saying it was “the right thing to do”.

Mr Healy-Rae said Puck Fair was of great social importance to the whole of South Kerry.

He said it was “sad to see ‘people’ disrupting and interrupting this ‘great’ event and that the goat would be released back into the wild “in better shape” than when it was killed.

“If the goat was up in Carrauntoohil or down in the Black Valley, would a vet monitor it every hour?” he asked on Radio Kerry.

“I saw the goat and the goat is fine. I was glad to see that people were enjoying themselves in Killorglin last night and weren’t locked down like they have been for years.” King Puck ‘back in the shadows’ after being placed back in cage atop 50ft throne for the night
