Kings of Pop Stock Aitken Waterman reunites in Channel 5 documentary

Pop producers Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman will reunite for a Channel 5 documentary featuring interviews with Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Jason Donovan and Simon Cowell.

His trio wrote many enduring hits of the 1980s and 1990s, and helped launch the careers of some of music’s biggest stars.

Channel 5 says the three-part documentary titled Stock Aitken Waterman: Step Back In Time reunites the record producers who have dominated the music scene and tells the story of success but also of “relationships” system rifts and lawsuits”.

The broadcaster says it will include rare and never-before-seen footage that tells the inside story of how a handshake outside a London pub brought the talented trio together.

Stock Aitken Waterman has written songs for Minogue, Astley, Bananarama, Dead Or Alive and Donna Summer among others.

“If we had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing,” said Waterman, then a promoter and record producer.

Meanwhile, Stock, a musician, songwriter and producer, said: “It’s only in retrospect that I realize what a great time it was.”

Aitken, also a musician, songwriter and producer, added: “Like us, hate us, but you’ll never change us.”
