Ukrainian officials say that Russian forces have fired on the Kyiv TV tower and Ukraine’s main Holocaust memorial, among other civilian sites targeted on the sixth day of Russia’s invasion.

The attacks on the TV tower killed five people and injured five others, the state’s Emergency Services Agency said.

Ukraine’s parliament, Verkhovna Rada, posted a photo of the smoke clouds around the TV tower, and the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, shared a video of it being hit by bullets.

Mr Klitschko said an electrical substation that powers the tower and a control room on the tower were damaged as a result.

The head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, said on Facebook that “a powerful missile attack on the territory where the (Babi) Yar memorial site is located” was taking place.

Babi Yar, a ravine in Kyiv, is where nearly 34,000 Jews were killed within 48 hours in 1941 when the city was occupied by Nazi Germany.

The killing was carried out by the SS along with local collaborators.
