Ancelotti and Pochettino praise Mbappe after Champions League winner

Kylian Mbappe insists Lionel Messi’s Ballon d’Or is worth nothing in Paris as PSG’s new lad continues to adapt.

The remaining Argentinian Barcelona in the summer after some contract problems and moved to Parc des Princes for nothing.

Messi, arguably the all-time great, broke records in Spain, but couldn’t translate that form across the Pyrenees.

He provided two assists in PSG’s 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne on Saturday night but has scored just seven times in 23 appearances this season.

Messi will naturally score his lowest goal in over a decade with Mbappe confessing that his previous feats have been nothing.

The Frenchman scored a brace and is confident his team-mates are firmly on the offensive.

Mbappe told reporters: “He’s a great player. I’m happy for him because we know he’s adjusting to a new life, a new city and a new club.

“And even if you win seven Ballon d’Or, you have to adapt.

“But he’s getting better and better, he’s happy and I always say that in the first part of the season, if we have a great Messi even better.

“With him it was easy. I always wanted to play with great players and great players are made to play against great players and we have a blast on the pitch. Personally. I really like that.”

Angel di Maria, a teammate with Messi at club and international level, has been trying to do his thing for his countryman.

The Argentinian moved to Paris in 2014 and tries to convey what he can to Messi.

He said last month: “As Leo Messi came closer, we tried to help, give them advice and make sure they adapt as quickly as possible. I think that’s the most important thing, to make they felt comfortable from day one..”

Mbappe’s brace on Saturday night links him to Zlatan Ibrahimovic over 156 goals.

Lionel Messi finds it difficult to adapt in Paris

He is still a long way from PSG record goalscorer Edinson Cavani, who has already hit the 200-goal mark, but thinks he could be aiming to topple him despite talks about a move.

“When you know what Zlatan has done here, it’s iconic,” he said.

“These are high standards, we’re in an exclusive circle. I’ve tried to balance him out and unless there’s any problem I think I’ll pass him.

“Still Edi [ahead]. We’ll see how it all goes. But obviously PSG’s all-time top scorer is nothing to scoff at, so we’ll see what happens. “
