Labour’s Dawn Butler has been threatened with a police escort after he called Boris Johnson a liar in the House of Commons

Labor MP Dawn Butler said she was threatened with a police escort after being thrown out of the House of Commons for calling Boris Johnson a liar.

In July, the former minister broke parliamentary rules by saying an MP, the prime minister, had “continued to lie to the House of Representatives and the country” about the government’s handling of Covid.

She refused to withdraw the charges when urged by Deputy Speaker Judith Cummins and was ordered to leave the chamber for the day.

Now the Brent Central MP has told BBC Radio 1Xtra that she has been threatened with a police escort if she doesn’t leave Parliament entirely.

“When I got kicked out I thought that was it. I went to get a drink in one of the many bars in Parliament because I was a bit shaky,” she said.

“And then I was approached and told I had to leave Parliament now and they said, ‘Are you going to leave now or do we have to ask the police to escort you off the premises?'”

She has also revealed how Labor Party members were “ready to disown her” over the incident.

“People in my own party were willing to disown me. Some deputies stopped following me. And they disowned me for breaking parliamentary rules. It’s like they’re not proud of me for being brave enough to call the Prime Minister a liar.”

She added: “There were people who thought your career was over, your career was over. You called the Prime Minister a liar, that’s it. And the people I expected to call to say, “Dawn, we’re pulling behind you”…no, it didn’t happen. And I was also insulted a lot.”
